The short version: One Valid Word collects no personal data. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and the game never sends anything about you to its developer or to anyone else.

This policy covers the One Valid Word app for iPhone and iPad, its widgets and this website. One Valid Word is made by Dimi Chakarov, who you can reach at hello@onevalidword.com.

What stays on your device

Your progress (streaks, results, hints, Free Play totals and the words you’ve solved), the puzzle you’re part-way through and your settings are stored on your device, where the app and its widgets can read them. To tell your devices apart when it syncs, the app gives each install a random identifier. It isn’t linked to you, your device or your Apple Account, and it’s never sent to the developer.

iCloud

If you’re signed in to iCloud, your progress syncs between your devices through iCloud key-value storage, in your own iCloud account. Apple stores it under Apple’s privacy policy. The developer can’t see or read it. Without iCloud, progress just stays on your device. If you’d like your synced progress removed, write in and we’ll help.

Purchases

One Valid Word Plus is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether Plus is unlocked. The developer receives no personal or payment details, only Apple’s anonymous sales totals.

Reminders

Reminders are off until you turn them on. They’re scheduled on your device by iOS; there’s no server and nothing is sent anywhere.

Game Center

If you’re signed in to Game Center, your scores and achievements go to Apple’s Game Center, where your friends and other players may see them according to your Game Center settings. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy. You can turn Game Center off in the iOS Settings app.

The dictionary

Looking up a word uses the dictionary built into iOS. The app sends nothing anywhere to do it.

Crash reports

If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in the iOS Settings app (Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements), Apple may pass the developer anonymous crash reports and usage figures. You can turn this off at any time.

This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking. The company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for a short time to keep the site running and secure.

Children

One Valid Word collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If the game ever starts collecting data, this page will say so before it does.
