About the game
One Valid Word deals a scrambled word, and you swap its letters, two at a time, until they spell it. Every puzzle is a word whose letters spell no other common word, so there’s always exactly one right answer. Every day brings a six-letter Daily and a four-letter Daily Mini, the same for everyone, each with a par: the fewest swaps that solve it. Free Play deals as many more as you like, from four to seven letters.
The puzzles also play in widgets, right on the Home Screen. One widget, Up Next, covers the day: the Daily, then the Mini, then Free Play. The widget and the app share one board, so a puzzle started on the Home Screen can be finished in the app.
What makes it different
- The one-answer rule. Unlike other unscramble games, it never rejects a perfectly good word, because exactly one word fits.
- Also on the Home Screen. The only daily word game we know of that you can play right in a widget, on the same board as the app.
- A streak that forgives. Rest days cover a missed day on their own. With Plus, a missed day solved from the archive within a week joins the streak back up. No paid streak protection.
- A quiet corner of your phone. No ads, coins, timers or hint shop. Hints are earned by playing. Reminders are off until you ask, and ease off when you take a break.
- Pins. Double-tap a letter you’re sure of and a drawing pin holds it in place. Hints tell you once; pins remember.
- Made for every screen. iPhone in portrait and landscape, iPad in split screen and Stage Manager, and the foldable iPhone Duo. VoiceOver, Reduce Motion, large text and dark mode throughout. Progress syncs through iCloud.
- A one-time Plus. Plus adds the archive, streak mending, eight-letter words, full par stats and a calendar of your days. Once it’s bought, the game stops selling it.
Sharing
A solved daily shares as text, for group chats: the puzzle number, a row of squares for the moves against par, a star at par, a 💡 if a hint was used, and the streak. It never includes the word.
Icon and clips
The clips are silent, 9:16 and loop seamlessly. Full-resolution versions (1080 × 1920, and full-screen iPhone) are available on request. App Store screenshots will be added here at launch.
